How to download your TikTok data as JSON
Request the right account export, choose the structured format, and prepare the downloaded file for private exploration.
In the TikTok app, open Profile → Menu → Settings and privacy → Account → Download your data. Select the information you want, choose JSON as the file format, and request the export. When TikTok notifies you that it is ready, return to the same screen, download the ZIP archive, and extract it on a device you trust.
Use a device and folder you trust
A TikTok export can contain private messages, searches, viewing activity, account details, social connections, and purchase-related records. Download it only to a personal device or another computer you are authorized to use.
- Confirm that you are signed in to the TikTok account you intend to export.
- Make sure the device has space for both the downloaded ZIP and the extracted files.
- Avoid shared downloads folders, public computers, and automatic cloud folders you do not control.
Open the data-download tool
TikTok currently places the export request under the account settings in its mobile app:
Choose the information you want included. For the broadest view, select the full download or every available category. The wording and category choices may vary by account, region, and app version.
TikTok maintains an official Requesting your data help page. If a button has moved, use TikTok's current instructions as the authority.
Choose JSON instead of TXT
TikTok may offer more than one export format. Select JSON for Unpack My Data. JSON preserves the names, lists, fields, and relationships that a browser tool can organize into filters, timelines, and dedicated explorers.
After checking your categories and format, tap Request data. Requesting an export does not delete your account or change your public profile.
Return and download the ZIP archive
TikTok prepares the file after you submit the request. Its help documentation says this can take from a few hours to a few days, and that the app will notify you when the export is ready.
Return to the same location and open the download status:
Download the file promptly. TikTok says a completed export is available for up to four days. If it expires, submit a new request rather than using an unfamiliar third-party downloader.
Extract the archive and find the JSON file
The downloaded file is a ZIP archive. Use the built-in extraction feature on Windows, macOS, Android, or iOS to unpack it into a new folder. Do not select the ZIP itself in the viewer.
- Move the ZIP to a private folder you can identify later.
- Extract or uncompress the archive.
- Open the resulting folder and locate the main file ending in .json.
- Use that JSON file with the TikTok viewer.
Export filenames and folder layouts can change. If there are several JSON files, start with the largest account-data file and keep the original archive until you have confirmed the contents you need.
Understand what the download cannot guarantee
The export is a copy of the information TikTok chooses and is permitted to provide through this tool. It should not be treated as a complete historical or forensic record.
- TikTok says some information may be unavailable when disclosure would affect another person's privacy.
- Because preparation takes time, the most recent 24 to 48 hours of some categories may not appear.
- Deleted, expired, removed, or otherwise omitted records cannot be reconstructed by the viewer.
- The export structure and category names may change between requests or regions.
- Video links can become private, restricted, removed, or unavailable after the export is created.
If very recent activity matters, TikTok recommends making another request after enough time has passed. Compare requests cautiously: a changed count does not by itself prove that a specific record was added or removed.
Ready to inspect the JSON?
Open the extracted file in the private TikTok viewer. The supported export stays in your browser and is cleared when the tab is refreshed or closed.
